To: J3 11-176 From: Bill Long Subject: Coarray TR place holder Date: 2011 June 09 Reference: J3/10-166, WG5/N1835, J3/09-184 A subordinate agenda item for this meeting (after completing the Interop TR) is to resume work on the Coarray TR. While I do not expect major progress on the Coarray TR at this meeting, there are two features that are important in the near term because of pressure to have implementations delivered. 1) At the WG5 meeting in May, 2009 (Las Vegas) paper J3/09-184 proposing an atomic compare-and-swap (ATOMIC_CAS) was considered and deferred to the TR. This, along with the other standard atomic operations are of significant interest. The complete list is in WG5/N1835, Proposal 2. 2) Numerous users have lamented the lack of collectives operations for coarrays. The current list in the TR draft is a duplication of the list of reduction functions in legacy Fortran. This is almost universally seen as the wrong set of functions for coarrays, and needs to be replaced. See WG5/N1835, Proposal 1, for more details. The main purpose of this paper is as a place holder to get a meeting paper number. I will rebuild J3/10-166 changing only the name to match this paper number and the dates to create a base document for this meeting. Separate papers to address the issues above will follow.
