ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5-N1219 RESOLUTIONS OF THE WG5 MEETING ON 22 TO 26 JULY 1996 IN DRESDEN, GERMANY The meeting was attended by the convenor and 24 members, representing 7 member bodies, and an observer. Resolutions D1 to D5, D7 and D11 to D15 were approved by unanimous consent, D16 and D17 by unanimous acclaim; votes on the other resolutions are shown following each resolution. D1. Revision of Strategic Plan That WG5 records its intent to revise its strategic plan (WG5-N1151) at its next meeting. D2. ISO Copyright That WG5 believes that ISO copyright should not apply to its working documents before the DIS stage. D3. Appreciation of X3J3 That WG5 expresses its most sincere appreciation to X3J3 for producing the Fortran 95 Draft International Standard and the Technical Corrigendum 3 for Fortran 90; in particular it expresses thanks to Richard Maine for his admirable work as editor. D4. Maintenance Procedures for Fortran 95 That WG5 thanks X3J3 for agreeing to act as maintenance body for Fortran 95 and instructs its maintenance body to accept Fortran 95 defect items directly from any WG5 member body or from the WG5 convenor. D5. Handling Floating Point Exceptions That WG5 requests the project editor for this Technical Report, which is contained in WG5-N1195r1, to make the minor changes described in WG5-N1213, and directs its convenor to request SC22 to initiate a PDTR ballot as soon as possible after the revised draft is available. D6. Interoperability with C That WG5 resolves that the direction of this Technical Report is to provide the functionality described in WG5-N1178, extended along the lines described in WG5-N1214. D6 was approved with one individual abstention and one country negative vote, from the US; this was on the grounds of the schedule, not the content. D7. Enhanced Data Type Facilities That WG5 directs its convenor to inform SC22 of the change of scope of this technical report, as specified in San Diego resolution S11. Further WG5 directs him to request SC22 to initiate a PDTR ballot as soon as possible on the technical report in WG5-N1196, augmented by the informative paragraph on optimization in WG5-N1212. D8. Part 3 of the Fortran Standard (Conditional Compilation in Fortran) That WG5 directs its convenor to request SC22 that the work item be divided to provide Part 3 of the Fortran standard, which describes conditional compilation, and to request SC22 to appoint David Epstein as Project Editor. D8 was approved with one individual negative vote. D9. Form of Conditional Compilation That WG5 confirms that the form of Part 3 of the Fortran Standard is generally that described in WG5-N1192 (Conditional Compilation in Fortran), rather than that described in WG5-N1208 (fpp). D9 was approved with two individual abstentions and one individual negative vote. D10. Interval Arithmetic That WG5 thanks Baker Kearfott and colleagues for producing the proposal for interval arithmetic in Fortran (WG5-N1209) in response to San Diego resolution S13 and resolves that interval arithmetic be processed as a requirement for Fortran 2000. D10 was approved with one individual abstention. D11. Parameterized Derived Types That WG5 thanks Steve Morgan for developing the proposal for parameterized derived types (WG5- N1207) in response to San Diego resolution S13 and resolves that parameterized derived types be processed as a requirement for Fortran 2000. D12. Development Body for Fortran 2000 Revision That WG5 thanks X3J3 for accepting its invitation to act as the primary development body for the 2000/2001 revision of Fortran. D13. Schedule and Content of Fortran 2000 Revision That WG5 plans that the final draft document should be received by WG5 from X3J3 by January 1999 for processing as a CD. Furthermore, the primary requirements for Fortran 2000 are as described in document WG5-N1215, which supersedes WG5-N1155. D14. Development of Individual Fortran 2000 Proposals That WG5 urges the primary development body to delegate and share its work, as appropriate, with members and groups of WG5 not directly associated with the primary development body. Further WG5 will identify such individuals and groups and will recommend to the primary development body specific collaborative proposals. D15. Future Meetings That WG5 proposes to hold meetings in the next two years as follows. February 10-14, 1997 Las Vegas, NV (joint with X3J3) July 21-25 or 14-18, 1997 Vienna, Austria February, 1998 USA (tentative) June or August, 1998 Trollhaettan, Sweden D16. Vote of Thanks for Support for Meeting That WG5 thanks IBM Germany, NEC, Silicon Graphics and Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme for generously supporting the meeting. D17. Vote of Thanks That WG5 wishes to express its appreciation to the convenor (Miles Ellis), the secretary (Loren Meissner), the librarian (Kurt Hirchert), the drafting committee, the hosts (DIN Fortran Committee) and particularly the local host Wolfgang Walter and his colleagues Andrew Pitonyak, Mrs Heinisch and Mrs Eckstein for their contribution to the success of the meeting.
