J3/98-167 Minutes of Meeting 145 J3 ANSI Fortran Standards Committee May 25-29, 1998 Terre Haute, Indiana 1. Monday, 25th May 1998 1.1 Opening Business Meeting 145 of the J3 Fortran Standards Committee was called to order at 8:30am. 1.1.1 Remarks from the chair 1.1.2 Adoption of Agenda There were a small number of changes made to the draft agenda. See Appendix A for the final form of the meeting agenda. Motion: (Whitlock/Dedo): "Approve the agenda as amended." Motion passed by unanimous consent. 1.1.3 Approval of Meeting 144 minutes (98-142) The acting secretary for meeting 144 explained that the minutes are not yet ready for approval. Action deferred until the day after they become available. 1.1.4 Secretarial Arrangements The office of secretary is a revolving post. The acting secretary for meeting 145 is Malcolm Cohen; Dick Hendrickson is scheduled to be acting secretary at Meeting 146. 1.1.5 NCITS/OMC Report Tony Warnock has received confirmation that he is now chairman of J3. 1.1.6 ISO/WG5 Report Deferred until later. 1.1.7 Treasurer's Report All the expenses for the last meeting have been paid. A $500 deposit has been paid for the August meeting in San Diego. The balance is $1534.31 as of 30th April. The meeting fee for this meeting is $50. The meeting room is included in our room rates. 1.1.8 Beginning Membership Report The committee had 18 members after the end of last meeting. In between meetings John Cuthbertson (EPC), Jeanne Adams and Jerry Wagener resigned, bringing the number down to 15. For this meeting the majority is 8 and the quorum is 5. 1.1.9 Comments from Members Hirchert: NCSA is downsizing some groups, possibility that NCSA will cease to support our email reflectors etc. in the short or medium term. We should be prepared to switch to an alternative system or systems in this case. Hendrickson: (a) Suggested that if the chair noticed any potentially interesting documents in the ISO distribution that these be noted when sending out the document lists. (b) Suggested that NCITS be requested to be more polite when turning down fee waiver requests. Bierman: ANSI/NCITS/ISO etc. are planning to switch to electronic distribution but still requiring payment for future standards. 1.2 Subgroup Organization The technical subgroups for this meeting were organised as follows: JOR: Whitlock (head), Bleikamp, Dedo, Hendrickson. Processing R1, R2, R8, M15, M16, M18a (98-147). DATA: Cohen (head), Hirchert, Maine. Processing R5, R6 and R7. 98-143, 98-146. INTEROP: Zongaro (head), Bierman, Steidel. Processing R9. INTERP: Whitlock (head), Bleikamp, Cohen, Steidel, Zongaro. Processing interpretations. NUMERIC: Warnock. Processing R4b. The committee recessed until 4:30pm for subgroup meetings. 1.4 Subgroup Reports JOR: Examined 98-147 and concluded that it is not a problem; will draft an appropriate response to Van Snyder. Concluded that 98-146 does not come within JOR's remit and passed it on to /DATA for further consideration. Noted the recent interest in stream i/o (item B4) for consideration of priority by WG5. 2. Tuesday, 26th May 1998 The meeting was called to order at 8:30am. 2.5 Subgroup meetings The meeting recessed until 4:30pm for subgroup meetings. 2.6 Subgroup reports INTERP 98-155 contains more interpretations from Robert Corbett There are 27 interpretations left over from Fortran 90 and an additional 27 interpretation requests have been received on Fortran 95, bringing the total to 54. DATA 143 on Language Regularization; after due consideration /data has concluded that these suggestions do not lie within the remit of our workplan and will send such a reply to Dr. Schulz. 3. Kearfott, Meissner, Smith and Snyder were absent and not represented at this meeting. Total attendance at the meeting was 13.
