To: J3 J3/26-194 Subject: Edit: Relocate constraint C1703 From: Dan Bonachea Date: 2026-July-24 References: 25-202r3, 26-007r2 1. Background ------------- In Fortran 2023, subclause 16.6 'Collective subroutines', paragraph 2 ends with the following: A collective subroutine shall not be referenced when an image control statement is not permitted to be executed (for example, in a procedure invoked from a CRITICAL construct). C1602 A reference to a collective subroutine shall not appear in a context where an image control statement is not permitted to appear. This prose specifying dynamic restrictions logically belongs together with the constraint that enforces analogous static restrictions. 2. Recent changes ----------------- Edit paper 25-202r3 inserted two new paragraphs, a new constraint and a new NOTE within the relevant body of this subclause. When these edits were applied, the new elements were inadvertently inserted *between* the two elements described in the Background. Consequently, the two semantically coupled elements (which are now labelled paragraph 3 and C1703) are now separated by roughly a half page of relatively orthogonal specification. This was unintentional and degrades the linear readability of the subclause. 2. Edits (relative to 26-007r2) -------- [420:22-23] 17.6 Collective subroutines Move constraint C1703 unchanged from its current position between para 5 and 6 to its intended position immediately following para 3 (before NOTE 1). Renumber constraints accordingly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===END===
